Areas of Assessment

Competency Evaluations

  • Competency to Stand Trial: Assess whether a defendant has the mental capacity to understand court proceedings and participate in their own defense.
  • Competency to Consent to Treatment: Evaluate if a person can make informed decisions regarding their medical or psychological treatment.

Risk Assessments

  • Violence Risk Assessment: Evaluate the likelihood that an individual will commit future acts of violence.

Sentencing and Mitigation Evaluations

  • Assess factors that might influence sentencing decisions, such as the presence of mitigating circumstances (e.g., history of abuse, mental illness) that could argue for a reduced sentence.

Parental Fitness Evaluations

  • Evaluate whether a parent possesses the necessary mental and emotional capacities to adequately care for their child.

Juvenile Evlauations

  • Transfer to Adult Court: Assess whether a juvenile should be tried as an adult, considering factors such as the severity of the offense, the juvenile’s maturity, cognitive capacity, and their potential for rehabilitation.
  • Competency to Stand Trial: Assess whether a juvenile defendant has the mental capacity to understand court proceedings and participate in their own defense.

Disability and Personal Injury Assessments

  • Evaluate claims of psychological injury or disability, including assessments related to workplace injuries, PTSD claims, and other situations where mental health may be a factor in legal proceedings.

Civil Commitment Evaluations

  • Determine if an individual poses a danger to themselves or others due to mental illness and if they meet the criteria for involuntary hospitalization.

Guardianship and Conservatorship Evaluations

  • Assess whether an individual has the capacity to manage their own affairs or if they need someone else to do so due to mental incapacity.
