Areas of Assessment
Competency Evaluations
- Competency to Stand Trial: Assess whether a defendant has the mental capacity to understand court proceedings and participate in their own defense.
- Competency to Consent to Treatment: Evaluate if a person can make informed decisions regarding their medical or psychological treatment.
Risk Assessments
- Violence Risk Assessment: Evaluate the likelihood that an individual will commit future acts of violence.
Sentencing and Mitigation Evaluations
- Assess factors that might influence sentencing decisions, such as the presence of mitigating circumstances (e.g., history of abuse, mental illness) that could argue for a reduced sentence.
Parental Fitness Evaluations
- Evaluate whether a parent possesses the necessary mental and emotional capacities to adequately care for their child.
Juvenile Evlauations
- Transfer to Adult Court: Assess whether a juvenile should be tried as an adult, considering factors such as the severity of the offense, the juvenile’s maturity, cognitive capacity, and their potential for rehabilitation.
- Competency to Stand Trial: Assess whether a juvenile defendant has the mental capacity to understand court proceedings and participate in their own defense.
Disability and Personal Injury Assessments
- Evaluate claims of psychological injury or disability, including assessments related to workplace injuries, PTSD claims, and other situations where mental health may be a factor in legal proceedings.
Civil Commitment Evaluations
- Determine if an individual poses a danger to themselves or others due to mental illness and if they meet the criteria for involuntary hospitalization.
Guardianship and Conservatorship Evaluations
- Assess whether an individual has the capacity to manage their own affairs or if they need someone else to do so due to mental incapacity.
Pre-Employment and Fitness-for-Duty Evaluations
- Conduct psychological evaluations for roles that require high levels of mental and emotional stability, such as law enforcement officers or first responders.
